You wouldn’t go somewhere new without a map, why would you start the new year without a personal road map? 2020 is uncharted territory and it’s time to make a game plan to get the most out of it. The biggest step to setting goals that will actually be accomplished is making them reasonable and measurable. Without developing goals, whether they are short-term or long-term, the year will be half over and the goals have been swept away in the river that is daily life. A medical billing company has to grow to thrive, setting your goals for the year are planting the seeds to a successful year. Here are five steps in setting goals that work for you, not against.
Step One: Set A Timetable. In the fast-paced nature of medical billing, year-long overarching goals may not be the best way to set goals. Bi-annually, quarterly, monthly, no one can tell you what works best for you and your business.
Step Two: Goals Can Be Fluid. Life happens. Unfortunately for us, we are mortals and have to roll with the punches. Stick to the deadlines you give yourself, but do not beat yourself up when unexpected things happen. Plan for what you can and prepare for what you cannot.
Step Three: Think Big. Ask yourself, what is your ultimate goal in life? What is stopping you from achieving that? We all have the capacity to achieve what we want out of life, but identifying what that is might be the intimidating part. Set up a brainstorming session and narrow down the things you absolutely cannot live without.
Step Four: WRITE IT DOWN. Do whatever it is you have to do to make your goal tangible. Make it your desktop background or phone background, put it on your fridge, hang it in your office.
Step 5: Stick with it! We’ve all heard the jokes about resolutions. It is up to you to keep it at the top of the priority list. There will be challenges along the way, but take everything one day at a time and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish from just being focused.
